The focus of this project explores the intersection of audio waveforms and typography; creating dynamic visual compositions by translating chordal structures into expressive lines and focusing on typographic supportive elements.
The ISTD 2024 project focused on interpreting the theme “The Line” through typographic exploration. The objective was to focus on creating visually compelling outcomes that will resonate with target audiences of design and music enthusiasts.
Graphic notation emerged as a pivotal discovery during the project exploration, offering composers a unique avenue to convey musical elements such as pitch, timbre, dynamics, and rhythm in unconventional and expressive ways. While this approach remains relatively unexplored, it opens doors to experimental musical outcomes and fosters a sense of freedom and innovation in musical expression. By delving into graphic notation practices, the project gained insights into breaking away from traditional musical representation, encouraging experimentation, and fostering new ideas that transcend conventional boundaries. This exploration into graphic notation empowered the project with a deeper understanding of how visual representations can enrich musical expression and provided avenues for creative
exploration and interpretation
within the redesign of audio
waveforms.
